5 Organization Tips for Keeping Your Garage Clean and Tidy
Spring is the perfect time to do a deep clean in your garage!
Try these 5 tips to help you get started:
Take an inventory
Go through all of the items in your garage - yes, all of them! Garages tend to be areas where we put items so they are out of sight - and then we forget we even have them! Check for expired products, broken items, or things you no longer use. Consider creating an inventory of products, tools, or other items you are keeping so they don’t get forgotten.
Plan a trip to the dump
Make sure you are correctly disposing of all items like paint, chemicals, or batteries. Your local dump will have guidelines on their website for what goes where!
Have a garage sale or make donations
For used items that are still in good or working condition that you no longer need, consider hosting a garage sale or donating them to a charity, friend, or family member who can give them new life.
Organize the items you plan to keep
Consider adding hooks to walls, tool chests, cabinets, shelving or tire racks to help keep all your items easy to find and access. If you’re keeping a written inventory, consider hanging it by your garage door.
Clean
Now it’s time to clean! If you park your car in your garage over the winter, chances are your floors could use a good sweep and mop (or hose down). You’re not planning a dinner party in your garage, but a good wipe down and dust can go a long way to transforming your garage from an oversized closet where items go to be forgotten, to a comfortable, clean space!
